On December 20, 2015, a tragic accident occurred on Highway 5 when a driver, evading police near the U.S.-Mexico border, drove in the wrong direction at 100 miles per hour, colliding with a Chevrolet sedan. The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of two UCSD students from China, Yang Mao and Yang Manlin. CU supported the victims' families, assisting with logistics and offering messages of condolence during this difficult time.

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are chronic infectious diseases prevalent in tropical regions, causing severe and often visible symptoms. Thankfully, affordable and safe treatments are available, with a single annual vaccination significantly reducing infection rates. CU has partnered with GiveWell to support this cause, where just $0.64 can vaccinate one person, and a $90 donation can protect 140 individuals, making a powerful impact on global health.

On January 23, news of a severe COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan, China, prompted CU to take swift action. With the virus spreading rapidly and affecting numerous communities, CU immediately launched an overseas donation channel to gather support for frontline workers in Wuhan.

On April 20, 2013, a devastating earthquake struck Ya'an, Sichuan, impacting countless lives and leaving communities in urgent need of support. In response, the Chinese Union (CU) mobilized a fundraising effort, gathering donations to assist those affected. The campaign successfully raised a total of 1,084.57 USD, which represents the collective goodwill and compassion of everyone involved. As the organizing body, CU team members also contributed an additional 200 USD to support the cause further. Although the amount may seem modest, it reflects our sincere hope to provide relief to those impacted by the disaster and to stand in solidarity with the affected communities.
